Psalm 27:1-6

The general feeling I get from this passage is someone running for shelter. Almost like a child going to their mother's arms when the thunder is frightening them. That while the thunder scares them, they cannot be so afraid when held by such loving, capable arms. How much more capable are the arms of our Father in heaven? The one who knows everything and is love.

Then it goes on to mention a focus on God. In this changing world, that is the only thing we can build a stable foundation on. I speak in this moment not of something that should be done because it is right - though that is also true - but from the practical sense that if we do not do it, we set ourselves up for problems later on.

If we put our trust or worth in anything other than God, it can be taken away and with it our stability. Seeking him should be the true aim of our lives, not seeking worldly things that are, as described in Ecclesiastes "smoke."

Then once again this psalm mentions the care of God and the safety that he brings. The love he has for those who take refuge in him. I love also how the words do not describe us as something great but as something that hides. We don't have to face the storms on our own with a brave face. Neither should we go to coping mechanisms that leave us worse than we were before. We go to God, receive his love and strength and renewal and can continue.
