Is 7:10-14; Ps 24; Rev 20:11—21:8; Lk 1:26-38
Psalm 24
Gates and doors: things that you may come across a lot throughout life. Yet we should embrace them, for you never know what may lurk behind. Like a cactus. It may look harmful on the outside and like more of an obstacle than a treasure, but look inside look just beyond and you will see things you never thought you could have. Look just beyond and you will see great beauty greater than anything imaginable. So when the verse states to fling wide the gates and to open the ancient doors, what I have taken from this is that these gates and doors are actually your heart and your soul. Now think about this when I word it like this:
“Fling open your heart. Open your soul and the Great King will come in”
Who is this Great King? Why, he is Jesus, the saviour of all peoples. Yes the lord is the great king who comes to save us. And we should let him. So when it says to open the gates and doors and Jesus will come in you should listen, open your heart, open your soul and he will save you. After all, he is the lord victorious in battle. What battle? The battle against sin.
Now let's look at another reading which gives us an example of a time when someone different opened their heart and soul. In Luke 1: 26-38 we read, “I am the lord's servant, let it come unto me.” As you read that, think of who you thought said that. Ruth? Eve? Esther? Elizabeth? No, it was Mary after the angel Gabriel came upon her and just told her she would carry baby Jesus to his birth. She opened her heart and opened her soul to that angel and she was then burdened with a great responsibility. She told the angel she was ready and she was. That angel appeared to her and told her something she thought would never happen to her. After all she was just a normal girl from Nazareth Sometimes during silent prayer I can tell the lord everything I have done against him. I will open my heart to the lord. I will tell him everything I have done, I will tell him everything I have left undone and he will forgive me for my sins.
Now do you see what happens when you open your heart and soul to the Lord? Yes as shown in the Psalm the great king will come and save you. Yes, as shown in Luke great things will happen. Yes, Great things.
